VIJHL: Oceanside Generals pound Predators for 8th straight victory

Parksville squad picks up pair of wins over Saanich

The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals continued their hot streak, scoring their eighth consecutive win after beating the Saanich Predators 3-2 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action at the Oceanside Place on Saturday, Oct. 6.

The Generals swept their home-and-away series against Predators, having beaten them 6-4 the previous night at the Georges Pearkes Arena on Oct. 5.

In their away game, forward Greyson Weme led the Generals with a hat trick, his second this season. Also garnering four points was Carter Johnson, who assisted in four of the Generals goals.

The Generals trailed 3-1 at the end of the first but came out strong in the second to score three unanswered goals to grab the lead 4-3.

The Predators tied it up just past the halfway mark short handed but the Generals shifted to another gear to score back-to-back goals late in the frame to earn the win.

The other scorers for the Generals were Trey Bolan, Brett Arnett and Alex Jalbert, who was acquired in a recent trade with the Nanaimo Buccaneers.

Goalie Ashton Sadauskas earned the win between the pipes as he made 26 saves.

In their second clash this time at Oceanside Place, the Generals struggled to get their high -coring offence going as Predator netminder Andrew Brabender was there to deny them. He stopped 39 of the 42 shots he faced.

The Generals were still able to squeeze out a 3-2 win with Brayden Ross leading the charge with two goals and Brett Arnett scoring once. Goalie Aaron Kaner turned away 25 shots to earn the win.

This coming Friday, Oct. 12, the Generals head to Duncan to take on Lake Cowichan Kraken at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena at 7:30 p.m.

NOTES: The Generals traded Zeyd Boltakke and future considerations for 19-year-old forwards Alex Jalbert and Hunter MacDonald …. the Generals acquired defenceman Brendan Carlson of Nanaimo, who played 19 games in the BCHL last season with the Nanaimo Clippers.
