The Morningstar Golf Club recently hosted a Women’s Golf Day that drew more than 65 golfers from across Vancouver Island.

The event, held on June 7, also featured two inspiring guest speakers, Teara Fraser, CEO and Founder of Iskwew Air, and Christina Spence-Proteau, a champion golfer and lawyer from Port Alberni.

The one-day, four-hour event, typically held the first Tuesday of June in hundreds of golf clubs in countries all over the world, is designed to engage, empower and support girls and women through golf.

Morningstar hosted a round of golf, golf clinic and a two-hour social event. Forty-eight participants kicked off the event with a shotgun start on the front nine while 16 others engaged in a putting, chipping, long shot and an on-course instructional clinic.

The sea of red and white, the Women’s Golf Day colours, were quite noticeable all over the course. The event was blessed as the rain held off for the entire two outdoor hours.

The social part of the event also featured a silent auction to raise money for B.C. breast cancer research. Several area businesses and individuals contributed items or services to the auction and organizers thanked them for their contributions. They include Qualicum Beach Cafe, Iskwew Air, Tigh-Na-Mara Resort and Spa, Shannon Motors, GoBike GoPlay, and Dorthy Roi (Metabolic Coach). Together with some donations from the Morningstar team, they were able to raise $2,455.
