The Thrifty Foods in Parksville is getting a facelift.

A development permit to facilitate exterior renovations for the supermarket at 280 Island Highway East was received at the Monday (Dec. 20) Parksville city council meeting.

According to the permit, the improvements will involve less than 25 per cent of structural and material changes, a paint joband no land alterations, landscaping or surface parking adjustments.

The modifications are intended to bring the building up to the current brand standards of Thrifty Foods with a mix of contemporary exterior finishes and neutral colours. The current stucco-clad gables on the north and east sides of the building will be reclad with aluminum composite panels and siding with a wood-like appearance. The areas with stucco and the concrete tile roof will be repainted.

Although there is no completion date noted in the permit application, per the issuance of a development permit, the permittee must start the development within 24 months of the issuing date, or the permit will lapse.

The motion to approve, moved by Coun. Doug O’Brien and seconded by Coun. Adam Fras, was passed unanimously at Monday’s council meeting.
