A chance to experience West African culture in Parksville

This promises to be an engaging, participatory and energy-filled performance with both stories and music

“African Village Music and Stories” at the McMillan Arts Centre (MAC) Nov. 24 is a chance to enjoy West African cultural traditions presented by two great artists.

Jean-Pierre Makosso, who currently lives on the Sunshine Coast, will engage audiences with folk tales of magic, mystery and humour. Fana Soro, based in Ottawa, is a musician specializing in traditional West African music and is a nine-year member of the prestigious Ballet National de Cote d’Ivoire.

The two will perform from 2-3 p.m. at the MAC in Parksville and then with their group Masabo at the Errington Hall at 8 p.m. This will be an engaging, participatory and energy-filled performance.

Tickets for the MAC show are $10  for adults and $5 for children under 12. For more on this show visit www.mcmillanartscentre.com or call 250-248-8185.

Tickets for the show at the Errington Hall are $20 at Cranky Dog Music in Parksville, Heaven on Earth in Qualicum Beach and at the Errington Store. Children under 12 years are $10 at the door and children under 5 years are free. More on both of these shows coming up in Friday’s edition of The NEWS.
