Alicia Lewis-Patient took part in all the events she could in last weekend’s Operation Trackshoes at the University of Victoria and brought the Adult Female Sportsmanship trophy home to Parksville for the first time.

She was part of the 33-member District 69 team that bused down together where she said she took part in and enjoyed all the events she could at the 41st annual festival for athletes with developmental disabilities.

The weekend included all the main track and field events and wheelchair sports, plus some swimming, other sports like basketball and bocce, and less competitive events like sack races.

Her favourite events include swimming and long jump.

It was her 12th year and she pointed out some from this area have gone for many years, including at least one who’s been every year.

Well over 500 people from across the province took part, plus coaches and camp counsellors over the completely volunteer organized weekend.

Lewis-Patient said this was the seventh year the local team placed first in the adult division.
