Ballenas Secondary 2021 grads cross the stage in Parksville

Commencement ceremony held indoors on June 29 with students separated into small groups

Through the tail-end of a record breaking heatwave in B.C., Ballenas Secondary School graduates crossed the stage to collect their diplomas.

The Commencement Ceremony was held indoors, offering some relief from the heat, on Tuesday, June 29, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

While COVID safety protocols were still in place, the grads arrived at the school in small groups, as to allow ample time and space for photos and celebration with friends and family.

As each new alum crossed the stage, their grad photo projected behind them, principal Rudy Terpstra flipped their tassel and presented them their diplomas.

As they left the auditorium to enter a gymnasium, each grad had the opportunity to strike a pose against a backdrop, and collect a gift bag as they existed the building.
