A block party is the way the Parksville and District Association for Community Living gives a little something back to the city they live in.
This year’s event was on Wednesday, and was slightly scaled down, due to the road construction work on McMillan Avenue. Even so, the event saw people from the community and supporters of PDACL turn out to share stories, have a hot dog and talk about the future.
PDACL, which serves a community of little more than 60 people with developmental disabilities, has been working to in the area for around 50 years, said Doreen Shaw, president of the PDACL board of directors.
“Giving back to the community,” she said, “that is what this is all about.”
She added they have been working behind the scenes — meeting with city officials, real estate agents and developers — to find a new location to better meet their needs. This, she said, is a long-term plan, but eventually, it will have to happen to better serve their community.
