Canadian Blood Services coming to Parksville for three-day donation event

Canadian Blood Services will accept blood donations in Parksville next month.

The donation event will take place during three days at the Parksville Baptist Church (550 Pym St.) on Jan. 11, Jan. 12 and Jan. 13, from noon until 6:45 p.m.

To book an individual appointment, those interested can visit www.blood.ca, use the GiveBlood app, or call 1-888-236-6283.

Group bookings can be arranged through email at bailey.dube@blood.ca or bookagroupbc@blood.ca.

The Canadian Blood Services suggests drinking approximately two litres of water the day before and one litre the day of to stay hydrated.

They also ask donors to arrive in good health, eat before they donate, and bring a government issued ID or Canadian Blood Services Donor Card to their appointment.

In B.C., more thna 12,500 blood donations are needed each month to serve hospital patients. While one out of two people are eligible to donate, only one in 60 do so.
