As historic Grace United Church moves into its eighth decade of service, its parishoners are looking to expand its role into becoming the hub of the Coombs community.
Public input will be welcome during a spring open house scheduled for April 8. The church has a roomy and bright basement area ideal for community activities, meetings, and celebrations. Grace also can offer a rural and quaint setting for weddings with the community activity room that can accommodate groups of up to 40 people.
In the meantime, to introduce the public to this feature space, the church has already begun hosting some fun events open to guests of all ages:
• Sunday afternoons from 1-2:30 p.m., come as a family and play with Lego, with more than 15,000 pieces to build with.
• On the first Friday of each month from 7-9 p.m. there will be a games night where whist, other card games, and board games of all kinds can be enjoyed.
• The second and fourth Wednesday of each month, from 10 a.m.-noon, is drop-in coffee/tea and muffin morning. Come and just socialize or join in an exciting craft such as rock painting, garden art. Or just share what you might be interested in. Come and make some new friends. No costs are involved for any of these activities.
Grace United Church is nestled in the heart of Coombs, on Highway 4A right next to the Goats on the Roof marketplace.
The spring open house on Saturday, April 8, will take place from 1-3 p.m. Guests are invited to come and tour the historic little church, built by a group of Coombs pioneers between 1945-46, and enjoy some fellowship and refreshments.
