The Denman Island Home and Garden Tour is providing an incentive for cyclists at its event on June 11 and June 12.
Organizers of the fundraising event are offering free draw for those biking the tour and a chance to win a basket of prizes.
“This is a way to encourage and appreciate everyone who rides their bike,” said Katarina Meglic, media co-ordinator. “Given that the tour is all about raising money for conservation, we’re thrilled that we can reward green transportation. With our ever-increasing awareness of climate change, it seems ever more relevant.”
Another advantage of cycling the tour for off-islanders, is no waiting to get on the ferry during this busy weekend.
The tour has long been considered one of British Columbia’s top horticultural events. Twelve unique homes open their doors and garden gates, inviting visitors for an up-close look at island craftsmanship, beauty, creativity and culture. You can see a working farm, an established orchard, a vineyard, and of course a varied selection of houses and gardens. In addition, you can see a waterfall wetland recently acquired by the DCA. All the funds raised support the work of the Denman Island Conservancy Association.

“In past years we’ve had over 100 people cycling the Tour,” said Meglic. “It makes a visual impact on our roads, and we hear from people who cycle that they loved the experience of being outdoors and seeing the island in a new way.”
