A Wild Shores Heritage Tour this weekend will help residents discover Parksville’s early days, starting off with a tour of the Craig Park Heritage Museum, and on to exploring old forests and the historic centres of the city.
The Brant Festival event will begin at the museum with general manager Buddy Williams, who spent years working with the Royal BC Museum in their Travelling Exhibits program.
Next, participants will take a guided walk with Pacific Rainforest Adventure Tours through a Nature Trust of B.C. property, preserved land within the Coastal Douglas Fir ecosystem.
Co-owner and eco-guide Ronda Murdock said the tour will include information about the land and the wildlife that inhabit it, followed by a drive into Parksville, ending up at an historic church. People on the tour will also get to learn about early families in the area.
“One of my interests has always been history, so I’ve learned quite a bit about pioneer families here,” Murdock said, listing figures like James Craig and the John Hirst Family.
This is the first year Pacific Rainforest Adventure Tours has teamed up with the Craig Park Heritage Museum for such an event.
