Errington will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of its War Memorial Hall (1390 Errington Rd) later this month.
The milestone will be marked as part of two days of celebration Aug. 20 and Aug. 21, including the return of the Hi Neighbour Day and Dance after a two-year hiatus.
Weekend festivities will include a parade, live music, the famous zucchini race, the Errington Farmers Market, a dance featuring Robin Layne and the Rhythm Makers, a re-enactment of the establishment of the War Memorial Hall and a centenary cake, according to organizer Laurie Mitchell. There will be no pancake breakfast this year for health and safety reasons related to COVID-19, Mitchell added.
The community will also honour the life of Bob Herbison, a 42-year member of the hall who died in September of 2021.

The Errington War Memorial Hall opened March 24, 1922. The re-enactment will portray this day, including an actor playing the role of the Nanaimo Daily Times reporter who attended the event. The re-enactment will also be based on minutes from public meetings in 1919 where the community determined to establish the hall in honour of First World War veterans.
The hall’s 100-year anniversary celebration is set for Sunday, Aug. 21.
Hi Neighbour Day, including the parade, farmers market, zucchini race and the dance featuring Robin Layne and the Rhythm Makers, goes Saturday, Aug. 20. Tickets for the dance are $20 at the door, at Shades of Green in Parksville and at the Errington General Store. They can also be purchased for $22.50 online.
