Members of the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department will no longer have to steel themselves before they take a sip of water at the hall, thanks to a vote Tuesday at the Regional District of Nanaimo board meeting.
The board voted to authorize an expansion to the Meadowood hall to house a new water tank, which will be used to store water for on-site consumption.
The water supply for the hall has been marginal since it was constructed in 2009, with a high iron and sodium content, leading to severe staining of fixtures and an unpleasant taste.
The new, 2,500-gallon tank will be filled periodically from a water truck. The addition will also house a new compressor to fill air tanks for the firefighters and a water pump.
