Food trucks are back in Parksville.

The trucks with culinary treats can again be found in Parksville Community Park (from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.), according to a release from the city.

Through an agreement, the city contracts the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce to provide daily food truck service on the food truck pads located on Sandcastle Drive, May through August with an option for September.

The city reviews the agreement on a regular basis and has amended the terms and conditions over time to address concerns from the community, vendors and the Chamber related to items including signage, hours of operation, garbage and accessibility around the trucks. Electrical and water connections are available to avoid the use of diesel generators.

The release notes additional food trucks may be located in the Parksville Community Park during special events, as well as other spaces such as Springwood Park and Memorial Plaza when booked for a special event by a group or organization.

The city’s special events co-ordinator is available to assist event organizers when planning events at city-owned spaces.

During the next few months, staff will create a resource package for event organizers which will include contact information for event services such as food trucks, portable toilets, traffic control firms, security and other services which may be required by organizers.

Interested food truck operators or other related vendors should contact the city to be listed as a resource for organizers. Email events@parksville.ca for more information.

In 2014, the city constructed the pads for lease to mobile food vendors in the Parksville Community Park and in 2015, issued a request for proposals for the occupation of the two food truck pads. Council accepted the proposal from the Chamber, which has co-ordinated the food trucks on these two pads since then. Food truck vendors require a valid City of Parksville mobile food services business licence to operate within the city.

Information about booking special events on city property including locations, application process and terms and conditions is available on the city’s website.
