The BC Hydro AquaVan rolled into Parksville on the weekend allowing locals to get their hands on some live animals and learn about marine life.

The BC Hydro AquaVan is Vancouver Aquarium’s mobile classroom, travelling around with live aquatic animals, animal props, and information to educate young and old about underwater life.

They stopped off at Wembley Mall on Saturday, and operations lead Paul Botha wasn’t so sure the “mall” location would attract many interested visitors.

He was pleased he was wrong.

“It’s been fantastic,” he said, “Since we started out this morning it’s been non-stop.”

Botha said Saturday people were coming from all over to check out the classroom, attracting mostly families, which is their main goal, he said.

The BC Hydro AquaVan is conducting community events all over the Island through the month of March.
