When the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department held a head shave to raise money for cancer research on Sunday, it was not only a community event, but also a family affair.

That was certainly the case with deputy fire chief Dan Francoeur, who spent some quality time under the shears with his firefighter sons Kurtis and Darren.

Some 34 heads were shaved raising over $4,100 as of Monday, with many hundred still expected to trickle in.

People can still donate at the fire hall or the Canadian Cancer Society office in Qualicum Beach to the Dashwood account.
