The Kwalikum Secondary School graduation parent committee has launched a silent auction in support of KSS Grad 2021.
The auction will open March 11 at noon and will feature more than 60 items donated by families and area businesses.
In keeping with the guidelines around public events, the auction will be an interactive, online event. Buyers can visit https://www.32auctions.com/KSSGrad2021. After registering with a name and email address, anyone can view items, flag favourites and register for updates.
“It’s a fun way to have an auction from a distance,” says Sarah David, a parent organizer from the committee hosting the event. “Anyone taking part can opt to follow items and receive updates when others have made a bid, even if you haven’t made one yourself.”
The online auction will last until the end of April, with some ‘flash’ items available each week but for a short time. Others will be available for the duration. One item on offer includes two nights at Crystal Cove in Tofino. The Qualicum Beach Café has offered a $10 gift certificate for each auction item sold, on top of their donation of a wine pairing dinner for two.
“There are lots of other great donations, big and small,” says David.
All funds raised will go towards this year’s Grade 12 graduation event, with anything extra converted into bursaries to help students with the costs of post-secondary education.
“These students have gone through a very difficult year of cancellations, restrictions, and adjustments. To have some sort of occasion marking this milestone in their lives is seriously important to them. It’s the culmination of their journey — and we want to honour that, even if it has to look a little different,” David said.
