The Mid Island Potters Group show and sale is set for Oct. 28 at the Qualicum Civic Centre (747 Jones St.) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This group has been meeting and selling pottery as collective for over 40 years, according to a news release by the Mid Island Potters Group.

“We hope you will join us at this spectacular event of over 16 potters, which will include such a variety of pottery,” the release said. “You will surely find that special gift for yourself or someone on your holiday shopping list.”

Admission is free. There will be a raffle of individual potters’ pieces and proceeds of the raffle will go to the Manna Homeless Society.

In the early days, sometime in the late 80s, a group of potters from the Mid Island region got together to sell and promote their work collectively in a show and sale known as the Art of the Fire. The group included potters from Chemainus, Nanaimo, Nanoose Bay, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and the Discovery Islands. This region boasted some of the most talented sculptors and potters of the day and together they started the Mid Island Potters Group.

As the years went by original members retired and new potters came on board. Now the group represent artists from Nanaimo to Gold River and the Discovery Islands and invites guests from the region as well to participate year to year.

The group hosts a once a year show that originally began at the Tigh-Na-Mara Resort and currently runs out of the Qualicum Beach Civic Center, generally on the last Saturday of October.

The group meets mid-summer to organise the show, schedule the social media posts and delegate all the other tasks associated with coordinating a great show.
