Museum to host period fashion show

Qualicum Beach Museum to present Then and Now, part of town’s anniversary

Not all fashions require a 20-inch waist, stiletto heels or the latest haute couture. Sometimes they involve hoop skirts, bonnets and even corsets.

Regardless, the results can look absolutely fabulous.

That’s a reality that will be put forth front and centre when the Qualicum Beach Museum presents a very special vintage fashion show on March 8 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.

The event, entitled Then and Now, said museum manager Netanja Waddell, is part of the 2012 celebrations planned for the community, marking the 70th anniversary of the town’s incorporation.

“It’s going to be held on International Women’s Day,” Waddell said. “We thought it would be fitting.”

The event, she said, will feature fashions from the 1800s as well as top of the line modern fashions provided by six Qualicum Beach merchants.

As well, food kiosks presented by local restaurants will give a taste of the gustatory delights available in the community. A no host bar will also be available.

The $20 ticket price will include a complimentary dessert and coffee, with all funds raised going towards the cost of a new wooden carving of the Qualicum Beach hermit.

Tickets can be picked up at Fresh N’ Fabulous at 210 2nd Avenue.
