The Oceanside Hospice Society has announced it has been selected as a recipient of the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie week initiative, which will take place this from from April 29 to May 5.

Shianne Carswell, fund development co-ordinator for the society said they are “thrilled to be chosen as the charity of choice for this year’s Smile Cookie campaign at Tim Hortons in Parksville.”

Tim Hortons has been an incredible community partner and Michelle, Nick and the staff are so welcoming and full of community spirit,” said Carswell.

The group will have members of the Oceanside Hospice Wheelers cycling team (who will be riding 200 kilometres in July’s Cycle of Life Tour to raise funds for hospice care in Parksville Qualicum Beach) volunteering for that week at Tim Hortons, decorating and bagging the popular cookies and dropping off pre-order forms to businesses in the area.

The chocolate chunk cookies, topped with pink and blue icing drawing out a smile, will be available at every participating Tim Hortons restaurant across the country with 100 per cent of proceeds donated to local charities in which the restaurants operate.

“The Oceanside Hospice Society relies heavily on community support and donations in order to offer programs and services free of charge in our community,” said Carswell. “The team of compassionate employees and volunteers provide grief support services and programs to those facing advanced illness, death and bereavement. They support individuals and caregivers throughout all stages of their grief journey including anticipatory resources and supports, medical equipment loan and delivery for palliative clients so they can remain comfortably in their own homes and bereavement support services.”
