The Oceanside RCMP recently delivered special Christmas baskets to families in the community.
With the help of victim services, giant baskets were presented to the families on Monday, Dec. 21. Aside from food, there were also toys, goodies and gift cards for family pizza night and grocery store coupons for Christmas dinner essentials.
This act of giving during the holiday season started in 2016 when the RCMP was approached by a family in the community inquiring if they knew any families that could use help. The Oceanside RCMP Victim Services, and the youth liaison officer produces a list of families in need.

The family, who wish to remain anonymous, came up with baskets of food, necessities, and items specifically for the age and interest of the children in the home. The RCMP also agreed to deliver the food baskets on their behalf. The RCMP has been doing it ever since.
Since then, the family has continued this act of giving every Christmas with the assistance of the Oceanside RCMP.
With this Christmas more difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic members of the Oceanside RCMP and Arrowsmith Community Justice Society also contributed funds in order to make the baskets even more special. This year the recipients are single-parent families in need.
“The baskets created by this caring family are always incredible and bring so much joy to families in need,” said Cpl. Jesse Foreman. “It is absolutely our pleasure to participate with this very festive and thoughtful tradition.”
