The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) District 69 Recreation Commission will once again recognize local athletes and artists in its annual Performance Recognition ceremony at Oceanside Place Thursday, Nov. 16.

The event provides certificates of congratulations to those who have won gold medals at provincial championships in the spring and summer of 2017.

Athletes and their friends and family have been invited to attend the awards presentation, which begins at 4 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for us to recognize the outstanding achievements of our local athletes and artists,” said Julian Fell, District 69 Recreation Commission chairperson. “These individuals exemplify how sports and the arts keep people active and engaged in our community. Having local heroes makes us proud and brings a positive identity to our region.”

The RDN Performance Recognition Program is open to individuals and teams who have placed first in a provincial, inter-provincial or national athletic or artistic competition. To qualify for this program, nominees must be amateur participants who live in the City of Parksville, the Town of Qualicum Beach or Electoral Area E, F, G or H.
