Parksville resident tapped for volunteer award

COPS spark plug gets provincial recognition for her diligence

When Minister of Justice Shirley  Bond kicked off Crime Prevention Week on Friday, she named local resident Margo Banks as a recipient of a prestigious volunteer award.

Banks, who serves as president of the DIstsrict 69 Citizens on Patrol Society (COPS), was one of only four people from B.C. to receive the award, which recognizes an individual’s commitment to their community through outstanding contribution towards crime prevention and community safety.

The award was presented at the annual Ministry of Justice, Community Safety and Crime Prevention Awards in Burnaby.

“Margo is an amazing and selfless person,” said RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman. “She is very deserving of the award and I can’t imagine doing my job without her. She works countless hours and is truly dedicated to making her community safe and vibrant.”

Anyone who would like to volunteer with COPS is asked to drop by the Oceanside RCMP station for more information.
