The public is invited to the New Year’s Day Levée put on by Qualicum Beach Legion Branch 76 (180 Veterans Way) on Jan. 1.

The event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m., will include refreshments, food and music, according to a news release by the legion.

“The word levée describes a uniquely Canadian New Year’s Day tradition of receptions held by the Governor General of Canada, the Lieutenants Governor of the Provinces, the Canadian Forces, RCMP, some municipalities and Legion branches,” the release read. “The levée marks the advent of another year and provides an opportunity for the public to visit.”
