The Town of Qualicum Beach is on course toward achieving its Age-Friendly Transportation Plan.

Although the goal is to improve safety and mobility for seniors, the plan also includes all vulnerable road users of all ages including seniors, children and youth, persons with disabilities, pedestrians and cyclists.

Two areas, Hemsworth Road and Rodway Trail, have been prioritized for traffic calming on Highway 19A. The work is almost complete and is just waiting for delivery of the lights held up in shipping.

On Hemwsorth Road, the upgrades include a posted speed limit of 50 km/h; a marked crosswalk with pedestrian-activated flashing lights; median islands; widened shoulders; and a new streetlight.
