Many hands were busy during a playground work bee at Parksville Elementary School (PES) over the weekend of May 5 and 6.

They brought their tools and their talent and over two days there were over a dozen people involved in the construction project digging holes and performing some strenuous activities.

PES principal Mary Beil was thrilled with how much support the project received not only from parents, but from businesses and other groups in the community.

It took at least five years for PES parents to raise enough money to purchase $30,000 worth of new playground equipment. The new playground is located adjacent to the existing intermediate playground and meets all the provincial requirements for school playground equipment.

Members of the Rotary Club of Parksville rolled up their sleeves and pitched in to help erect the new equipment. Heather Powell, who spoke on behalf of the club said there were many people to thank in the community. She also gave a shout out to all the past parent advisory council members who fundraised for the project but no longer have students in the school.

The Rotary Club will be donating the balance of pea gravel and some wood to bring the project to a successful completion.
