The streets of Parksville and Qualicum Beach will be colourful this weekend as car collectors from all over show off their timeless treasures.

Every year Seaside Cruizers Car Club hosts a weekend of events in District 69 culminating with the Father’s Day Show ‘n Shine in Qualicum Beach.

During the Show ‘n Shine the whole town is wired for sound with music from the ‘50s and ‘60s.  The Sunday event was even mentioned on the Oprah Winfrey Show as one of the 10 best things to do on Father’s Day.

The show stoppers will be on display tonight with a cruise-in night at the Parksville A&W from 5 to 7 p.m.

Last year close to 270 cars came to the A&W event which include a cruise around the streets of Parksville at 7 p.m.

On Saturday it’s the Poker Run leaving from Bugsy’s Bar & Grill in Parksville at 11 a.m. followed by a BBQ at 12:30 and prizes and awards at 2 p.m.

The action moves to Qualicum Beach Saturday night with a street dance featuring the Maloomba Boogie Band going from 6 to 10 p.m.

Sunday, June 17 is the big day with just under 600 vintage and specially cars lining the streets of Qualicum Beach.

The spectacular show on wheels featuring custom, classic, hotrods and everything in between will take place in the heart of Qualicum Beach.

The day starts with a Shriner’s pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m.  At noon the Arrowsmith Pipe Band will pay tribute to fallen rodders and at 2:30 there will a trophy and awards presentation.

The Seaside Cruizers Car Club has been hosting the annual event for many years.

575 cars are registered this year with participants from all over Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, Alberta, Washington State, Oregon and California.
