The St. Andrews Historical and Cultural Society was the recipient of two $5,000 cheques that will go toward the preservation of the iconic St. Andrews Lodge, located on the waterfront in Qualicum Beach.

The society president Jay Smith received two financial donations from Marilyn Johnson in memory of her late husband Alan John, and from the ELM Family Charitable Fund, represented by Liz and Christopher Jacobson.

The funds brought the total amount donated and pledged since the society gained charitable status on Aug. 1 to more than $40,000. This amount is in addition to the society’s various fund-raising activities.

“We are so gratified at the support and enthusiasm for this project” said Smith. “Being able to issue tax receipts has opened up many doors for the society. We look forward to moving ahead with our fund-raising campaign and upholding our commitment to the citizens of Qualicum Beach that the lodge restoration will not cost them anything. The society’s board is willing and able to raise the funds required to restore the lodge and we are not requesting funding from the taxpayers..”
