Three hundred pounds of quality ground beef as well as $1,354.72 was donated to the Nanoose Bay Community Cupboard this month thanks to a challenge initiated by the Springford Farm.

The farm matched dollar and beef donations made to the charity through the farm in December. Friends of the farm donated $677.36, with a significant donation from the Northwest Nanoose Residents Association. The farm matched this along with 300 pounds of ground beef, a donation Charlie Brucker at the Nanoose Bay Community Cupboard was pleased to have.

“Every donation is helpful. This is something that they wouldn’t normally have.”

Brucker said December was a busy month for the cupboard. Colin Springford of the Springford Farm said after his family helped a local family through the Nanoose Bay Elf project, they realized there were hungry mouths in the area to feed.

“We thought since we were a farm and selling beef that maybe that was a way we could give back to our local community, when we realized that our neighbours were in need,” he said.
