St. Stephen’s United Church choir will perform Christmas cantata Dec. 11

Music begins at 2 p.m.

The St. Stephen’s United Church choir will perform a special Christmas cantata called ‘Comfort and Joy’ on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.

A cantata is a vocal composition with an instrumental accompaniment, such as a keyboard in this case, according to a news release by Anne Bennett, choir director.

“Proclamations about the Messiah’s coming nearly always included two messages: Comfort and Joy and it’s a seasonal cantata by this name that we’ll be performing,” Bennett said.

Combining both familiar biblical passages and melodies interwoven with carols, the musical drama creates a fresh interpretation of the timeless Christmas story.

Guest soloists with the choir are Skye Donald and Bruce Feltham.

No tickets are necessary, but donations to the food bank, either monetary or non-perishable food items, will be gratefully accepted.

“Why do we do this?” said Bennett. “It’s because our choir members look forward every year to the opportunity to sing advent hymns and carols. It’s why many join a church choir in the first place. Performing ‘Comfort and Joy’ allows us to share this love with the community.”
