What happens when you leave an infestation of Scotch broom to take care of itself? The students at Oceanside Middle School aren’t willing to wait around to find out.
For the past four years, the middle school students have been breaking out the loppers and working to clear an infested field next to Wembley Mall.
The students — in this case a team of willing workers in Grade 6 to 8 — were on hand after school on May 18 to clear out the alien invaders.
“If they hadn’t been so faithful, the field would be totally covered with broom,” said organizer Joanne Sales.
