Sheila Jackson and Judy Southern model their Victorian-era clothing at last year’s Victoria Day tea event.

As seniors in Qualicum Beach prepare to celebrate the Victoria Day long weekend, Judy Southern is hoping some of them will be able to answer a simple question: what would one wear to tea with the woman known as The Grandmother of Europe?

She’s hoping they won’t just answer the question, but will actually dress in period costume — or as close as they can get to it — during this Friday’s Victoria Day Tea event at the Qualicum Beach Seniors Activity Centre.

Southern, the president of the centre, said the tea is slated for 1:30 to 3 p.m. today, Friday, May 20 and will feature tea and snacks and entertainment.

“People are encouraged to dress up in long dresses and hats and formal suits,” she said.
