Oceanside Non-Market Housing Task Force Community Information Session: 9 a.m. to noon,  Society of Organized Services, 245 West Hirst Ave., Parksville. The Oceanside Non-Market Housing Task Force is pleased to announce a community information session to discuss critical housing issues in the Oceanside area/ This event is open to representatives from various sectors, including: Municipal, provincial, and federal governments; First Nations; Business community; Tourism sector; School district; Non-profit housing organizations; Developers; Churches; Service clubs; Service providers. “We invite our partners to engage in an open conversation about housing challenges and potential solutions. Charity Art Sale & Raffle: sponsored by DeCosmos Fine Arts Society. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Raffle draw at 2:30 p.m. Original Art by local artists; nothing over $200. 100% of proceeds to the SD69 backpack program whose goal is ‘Weekends Without Hunger’.  184 W 2nd Ave, Qualicum. Bow Horne Bay Community Club Dog Days of Bowser: Celebrating Mike! A birthday party for our famous bartending dog at the old Bowser Hotel in the late 1930s. 11 a.m.  to  3 p.m. at the Bowser Legion. Cutest Dog contest, artisan fair, face-painting and many family activities. Event includes a hot dog/smokie fundraiser for Bowser Seniors Housing Society, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For info about the contest, or to register your dog, email: dogdaysofbowser@gmail.com.

JULY 1

Parksville’s Canada Day Celebrations: Join the City of Parksville at Canada Day celebrations 2024 with traditional parade, opening ceremony, Canada Day cupcakes, entertainment featuring Bobs & Lolo and The Apollos, buskers, food trucks, and more! Qualicum Beach's Canada Day Celebrations: The day will kick off with a pancake breakfast at the Legion at 8:30 a.m. The parade leaves the Civic Centre at 1 p.m. winding through Town to Veterans Way. Events focus on children and families at the Activity Village with games, bouncy castles, face-painting, as well Make-and-Take tables. A wide range of live music will be offered throughout the day, featuring Eric Michael, The Apollos, Cheers, 8 Second Ride and the headliner Completely Creedence. Burgers and hot dogs and a full lineup of refreshments available from a.m. until 10 p.m. Ice cream truck will be on-site.

Rotary Club of Parksville: New members welcome. Club meets at the Parksville Community Centre, 223 Mills St., every second and fourth Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Weekly Bottle Drop, every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Speedy Glass in Parksville. Royal Canadian Legion Qualicum Beach Branch 76: Open 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week; Ladies Pool, Tuesday, 1 p.m. and Drop-in pool 1 p.m.; Monday-Thursday, Darts, casual Fridays 6 p.m. Meat Draws: Friday & Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the lounge. Coronation Street Social Club of Oceanside: Meets September thru June on the second Thursday each month at Qualicum Beach Legion (downstairs) 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Don’t need to be a fan of the show, all that’s required is a sense of humour. Oceanside Stroke Recovery Society: Providing therapy and support to stroke survivors and their caregivers. Meets Fridays at St. Columba Church Hall, 921 Wembley Rd., Parksville at 11 a.m. Info: 250-586-6766.

Oceanside Caregivers: Meet the last Thursday of each month (May 30, June 27) at 1 p.m. at The Gardens Long Term Care, 650 Berwick Rd., North, in Qualicum Beach. We bring support by way of understanding, caring and resources, in a confidential setting. Info: 250-752-2104 or caroldowe@gmail.com.

PROBUS Parksville Club:  We are a social club retired/ semi-retired men and women living in the Parksville area.  Our next meeting is on June 17.  Our speaker will be Tim Schewe from DriveSmart BC and he will be getting our driving skills tuned up for the coming summer travels. We will Meet at the Parksville Community Centre 223 Mills St. in Parksville (just behind Starbucks). Qualicum Beach Probus Group: We are an active social group of retired and semi-retired seniors which meets on the first Tuesday each month at St. Stephen’s Church (150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach). We have a variety of interesting and diverse speakers and several special interest groups. We welcome guests interested in exploring, joining us and meeting new friends.
