Beaton keeping the beat in Parksville

Captivating voice of Emma Beaton to woo audience on Friday

Emma Beaton is returning to the area to woo audiences with her captivating voice on Friday, July 13, and she will be joined by friend, talented vocalist and banjo player Nic Gareiss.

The duo’s self titled CD was nominated for the  2010 Traditional Singer of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Beaton, a former Qualicum Beach resident, has been busy with her Boston-based group Joy Kills Sorrow, releasing their first official music video for their song, Jason and touring the United States.

The group was recently over in Denmark and the UK performing and Beaton has also been teaching fiddle and voice in the U.S.

Gareiss is a world-renowned dancer who was recently in Ireland performing and teaching at the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in Donegal.

The two will be doing a four-concert tour on the West Coast, complete with a stop in Qualicum Beach.

The show takes place at the Oceanside Community Baptist Church, 600 Beach Rd., beside the train station in Qualicum Beach. Tickets are $20 available from the Vintage Candy Shop or by e-mailing jbeaton@shaw.ca.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and The Oceanside Jammers will open the show at 7:30 p.m.
