A Parksville icon is celebrating 25 years in business.
Paradise Mini-Golf and Fun Park has been entertaining millions of kids of all ages for over two decades and to mark the occasion will be holding a special half price event June 8 and 9.
Mike and Joan Jiggins built the whimsical mini golf course back in 1988 and while their daughter Susan LaFauci and her husband Joseph take care of running the operation these days, LaFauci said her parents are still active participants in the various business ventures they began many years ago.
LaFauci pointed out that her mom and dad have been major contributors to the Parksville economy over the years.
“My parents have worked so hard their entire lives and have employed many people in their businesses,” she stated.
She added their legacy in this area is something to be proud of because running a business for 25 years is a major feat.
LaFauci said her parents always wanted a mini-golf and they eventually made it happen.
“They moved to Parksville in 1972 and purchased French Creek Cottages and quickly changed the name to Camelot Sea Side Resort. After two years they sold this and bought Arranglen Lodge in Qualicum which they ran for 23 years. They built Paradise Mini Golf 25 years ago and have employed hundreds of people over the years. They acquired Paradise Seashell Motel about 20 years ago and then built Arrowsmith Golf and Country Club 17 years ago.”
The two world famous 18-hole courses which include some unique features have been the backdrop for many wedding photos, birthdays and other celebrations.
The Turf ‘n Surf mini golf course was built in 1988 and looks as great today as it did then. Some of the features include the old waterwheel, the lighthouse, the windmill, the village church and the Victorian mansion. Treasure Island was introduced two years later in 1990 and Joseph LaFauci played a major role in building it.
Next came the games room, the modernized, full-service RV park, a gift shop, bumper boats and Stellario's Italian Café.
Now the owners want the community to help them celebrate their success with half price mini golf and bumper boats June 8 and 9. There will also be face painting, balloon wizardry and clowns from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
