Camp offers fiddle instruction

Nanoose Bay will come alive with the sounds of fiddlers from across the Island

Fiddlers from every pattern of tartan are invited to participate in the annual Vancouver Island Fiddle Camp in Nanoose Bay.

All level of skills are also welcome to the event March 24-27 at Seven Springs Resort, which features an Instructor’s Showcase Concert featuring the faculty.

Fiddle music is largely taught by ear in a group setting and often more social than other forms of music study because of the opportunity to participate in jam sessions with other students. Among the seven instructors at this year’s camp are Gordon Stobbe and Trent Freeman. Stobbe teaches workshops across the county and the author of the most popular line of fiddle instructional books in North America.

Deadline to register is March 17.

The faculty concert is set for March 25, 7 p.m., at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 2600 Powder Point Rd. Tickets are available at the conservatory or at the door. For more, call 250-754-4611 visit http://web.me.com/nanaimofiddlers.
