Enjoy a taste of Japanese nightlife, some baroque music, a bit of jazz and a Latin-American quintet this weekend at The Old School House’s Harvest of Music Festival.
The feature concert is a collaboration between a Japanese superstar, Takio Ito, and his band, which has both Japanese and Canadian musicians. The group will play traditional Japanese folk songs combined with elements of rock, jazz and other genres at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. The evening will include saki, Sapporo beer, sushi and decorations. This show runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 29.
Today, (Friday, Sept. 28) a noon concert will feature early music, played on a wooden flute, guitar and lute. From 7 to 9 p.m. Aires-Latinos, a woodwind quintet, will play Latin-American music.
Saturday at noon West Vancouver classical pianist Jeffrey Luo returns to TOSH, a very young musician who has already won prestigious awards and attracted international attention.
Following the Takio Band Saturday night, the festival will wrap up Sunday with a Cornucopia Jam featuring many of the festival’s musicians as well as some surprise performers.
All concerts are held at TOSH, except for the Taiko Band, which will play at the civic centre. Tickets range in price from $10 to $16.
