Pirates, stilt walkers and kids with eye patches were scouring Parksville Beach on Saturday, as the Quality Food Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition (Beachfest) held a treasure hunt.

Kids followed directions to locations around the beach seeking out treasures they got to take home.

In the evening, a light show by VestaFire Entertainment was set to take place with fire spinning, juggling and acrobatics. The festival continues until August 16.
