Are you a fan of classic rock? Blues? Jazz? 4 On The Floor will perform a mix of all these styles along with original songs of their own at the Shady Rest this Saturday, Aug. 29.

Lead vocalist Dave Hendrickson said the band is a mix of both young students and older gentlemen, some of which he met through his classes at Vancouver Island University. He said it’s nice to see that young people still enjoy older music, “old souls appreciate old music.”

One of his class requirements was to form a jazz combo with his classmates, and after forming the group, they stuck together, he said.

He said it was different playing with a mix of young and old musicians. “It’s a different influence.” He said the younger members of the group are skilled musicians and he sees potential for growth.

The band consists of Dave Hendrickson on guitar and vocals, Peter Leclerc, his long-time band mate on guitar and vocals, Jordan Becker on drums and James Van Weerden on bass.

They play a variety of classic rock tunes, which travels from generation to generation.

Their set can be anything from Elvis Presley to the Sheepdogs. They also incorporate jazz and originals.

“We’re upbeat, danceable,” he said.

The band has only been playing together since June but he has experience playing and recording long before that.

He has been living in the Parksville area for 37 years, he said, and is currently living at Spider Lake.

His goal is to follow his passion and get his diploma allowing him to teach music.

He said the band plans to continue doing local shows and hopes to begin recording an album in the following months.

“It’s kind of like a come back for me,” Hendrickson said.

The performance starts in Qualicum Beach at 7 p.m. and goes until 11 p.m.

The band will also perform at the Boar’s Head Pub in French Creek, September 12.
