The Oceanside Classical Concerts Society (OCCS) Music Scholarship has been awarded to Caiden Meyer.

The annual scholarship of $2,500 is dedicated to fostering the future of all forms of music by supporting mid-Island aspiring musicians, according to a news release by OCCS.

Meyer, a 2022 graduate of Alberni District Secondary School, began his studies in the Faculty of Music at the University of Victoria in September. A gifted musician who plays saxophone, flute and piccolo, Meyer has plans to pursue a career as a music educator to help kindle the musical talents of the next generation.

“My first semester was definitely a huge change, but it has been amazing,” Meyer said after finishing his first term. “I have had many performing opportunities and have met so many amazing musicians. I would not have been able to do this without the help of this scholarship and I am so grateful.”
