In August, the McMillan Arts Centre (MAC) in Parksville will host three exhibits.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of this summer’s festivals in Parksville Qualicum Beach were cancelled. The MAC has decided to celebrate one of the most popular events in the region, in their own artistic way.

The historical exhibit, Let’s All Go Fly A Kite!, which celebrates Parksville’s Kitefest event, will continue until Aug. 29.

The MAC invites everyone to see the amazing and colourful kites provided by Kitefest co-ordinators with the BC Kitefliers Association displayed in the arts centre’s concert gallery.

Kelly Corbett’s Undercurrent, an acrylic triptych painting inspired by Malcolm Island, remains in the entrance hall until Aug. 29.

The latest exhibit, running from July 27 until Aug. 29, will feature the work of Cathy Stewart in This Land Is Your Land.

Stewart’s exhibit shows Canadian landscape and seascape from three different coastlines, particularly the west coast.

All paintings were created from photographs taken by Stewart while playing on the east and west coasts and while working with the Inuit people on the Arctic Coast.

Entrance is by the suggested donation of $5 per person, or $10 per family.

The MAC is open Tuesdays to Sundays, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., with no appointment necessary.

On Thursday, July 29, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., the MAC will be the host venue, as well as the first stop, for the Parksville Wine Walk.

Tickets can be purchased through www.eventbrite.ca or winewalks.ca.
