RDN considering increase in Port Theatre tax

Move comes after no increase in support since 2002 season

Taxpayers in Nanoose Bay could be paying a little bit more for the Port Theatre in Nanaimo after Regional District of Nanaimo directors voted for a one-time increase of 2.5 per cent from the current annual requisition.

As it stands, taxpayers in Area E (Nanoose Bay) pay $19,950 to help the theatre and the new requisition will bump that up to $20,448, an increase of $498.

In all, the taxpayers in electoral areas A, B, C, D and E contribute $65,270, which will rise by $1,632, to $66,902.

The move comes in light of a lack of any cost of living adjustment since the funding agreement was reached in 2002. The move still has to be ratified at the March regular RDN meeting.
