Spirituality, sexuality, health and more

Parksville-Lecture series at Knox United Church running in Parksville Tuesdays until March 19

A speaker series touching on a diverse range of topics is being held at Knox United Church, from navigating finances to sassy sexuality.

Rev. Hilde J. Seal at the church said the theme of the long-running series this year is joyful aging, but it isn’t limited to the elderly.

“We’re hoping people will come because we’re all aging, so we’ve tried to make our topics diverse in that way.”

The lectures happen at lunch time on Tuesdays until March. 19 at the church in Parksville.

Seal said the series is not a religious event but instead an educational opportunity for the community, and also promises to be entertaining.

The series began on Feb. 12 and the next one, being held Feb. 19, had to be changed due to illness.

The new speaker will be Ann Holroyd with the faculty of nursing at Vancouver Island University, who’s talk is entitled The Enigma of Health.

Lawyer and adventurer John Hossack will talk about how to live well with finances during his lecture Feb. 26, chair of the psychology department at VIU Rachel Cooper will discuss Seamless Transitions in life on March 5, and Lori Amdam will shed light on Meaning and Spirituality on March 12.

The last speaker on March 19 is a sexual educator and will “add some pizazz to the last lecture,” Hilde said.

“Kerri Isham is coming to talk about healthy sexuality, so that people can age well and not think they've stopped being a sexual person.”

The lectures are $10 including a healthy lunch catered by Stewarts on Harrison.

Lunch starts at 11:15 and the lectures run from noon to 1 p.m. Visit www.kucparksville.ca for the lecture schedule or call 250-248-3927.
