Be sure to mark June 15 on your calendar because the Starlight Pops Choir is back in Parksville for their performance called We Are Family.

Based in Victoria, this group sings primarily classic popular music. The show features music that relates to the whole family and is familiar to the audience.

“We’ve really bonded into a really cool family of people and I wanted to reflect that in our music that we’re doing in our upcoming concert,” said Sue Dorman, director for the choir.

Dorman started the choir back in 2008 in Victoria with the goal to direct choral music, but in a different way.

“I know that music has contributed to my life, and so I’m just glad to be able to help other people in the choir, so that they can experience how great it is to make music,” Dorman said.

Dorman welcomes anyone and everyone into her choir, no matter how old they are, or how much experience they have. There is, however, a waiting list of over 100 people to get into the group of about 75 members.

The Starlight Pops are wrapping up their fifth season this year, and Dorman revealed that they have a few surprises up their sleeves for their upcoming concert.

The show June 15 is at Knox United Church in Parksville at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $20 at the door, or online at www.starlightpopschoir.com.
