Talented? The Shady wants you on stage

No two Mondays are going to be the same at open mic event

If you have some musical talent and want to bring it to the stage in front of a live audience, there’s a new opportunity to show your stuff.

The Shady Waterfront Pub is launching Open Mic Mondays starting March 5.

Pub manager Tom Saunders said they are hoping the many talented residents in District 69 will come out.

“We get a quite a lot of entertainment through the Shady Pub, but we’re always trying to keep it new and interesting. This open mic event will give the area’s locals a chance to switch places with the pros. You never know what you’re going to see.”

Saunders said no two Mondays are going to be the same.

“We’re turning the mic over to Oceanside’s many talented residents with the hopes of showcasing just whatever it is they’d like to perform … play an instrument, sing a song, tell a story, read a poem … the mic is yours,” said Saunders.

He added participants just need to sign up upon arrival and await the call.

Multi-talented musician Tim Griffin will be the host. The singer and guitar player who performs with local band Asleep at the Steel, will break the ice with a few tunes of his own before turning over the stage.

“It takes a bit of courage to get up and sing in front of people.  I will sing a few songs and start inviting people up,” he said.

Griffin said he will keep it light but tight.

Open Mic Mondays begin at 6 p.m. every Monday night at the Shady Pub in Qualicum Beach.
