Work by members of the local Snapshots 4-H Photography Club is on display in a special installation as part of the McMillan Arts Centre’s (MAC) Youth Exhibit. It will be in the gallery until May 29.
The young photographers found inspiration for their photos in the 4 “Hs” that have guided the international youth development program for more than 100 years, according to a news release by the club.
The four “Hs” represent the club’s four values: head (managing, thinking, developing critical thinking skills), heart (relating, caring, developing friendships), hands (giving, working, volunteering and helping out) and health (well-being, healthy living, taking care of yourself and the planet).
“People often think 4-H is just for farm kids, but the truth is 4-H is for everyone,” reads the release. “While the program’s roots are in agriculture, 4-H has expanded to include many other projects – like photography! Members also learn important leadership and communication skills.”

Snapshots 4-H Photography Club is open to youth aged nine to 19 from the PQB area. Some members are brand new to photography, while others are more experienced. Some use a smart phone camera, others use a DSLR. The goals are hands-on learning, trying new things and meeting new friends who share similar interests.
