Youth Week Concert in Errington on Friday

Motus O Dance Theatre join local youth talent at Errington Hall on May 1

Errington youth will have the opportunity to shine this Friday.

On May 1, a group of young artists will share the stage with professionals Motus O Dance Theatre for the Youth Week Kickoff Concert.

“We’re trying to keep it playful and fun,” said organizer Ashlee Sales.

First up in the evening, the local youth will put on a variety show. Sales said the performance will feature young singers, actors and dancers. Also possibly mixed into the show will be some theatre/improv games, as well as a little audience participation.

The youth involved are from all over the area, said Sales. Some of the performers were also part of the Youth Engagement Project, which ran at the Errington Hall between October 2014 and this May.

After the youth performance, touring professional company Motus O Dance Theatre will take the stage with their production Circus Terrifico. According to the troupe’s website, the four-person clown act features “hilariously unkempt micro-version interpretations of their favourite ballets, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.”

“I was thrilled they were going to be on Vancouver Island,” said the Errington Hall music co-ordinator Val Dare, who has seen Motus O before.

The doors open at 6:45 p.m., with entertainment starting at 7:15 p.m. There will be refreshments available.

The event is free to attend for youth age 13-18. Children 6-12 can also get in free, but they must be accompanied by a paying adult. Adult tickets are $10 at the door.
