Corridor ability to meet transit needs questioned

‘Rail service remains a great idea’ (PQB News, Feb.7), argues again that using the E&N Corridor for a community trail is short-sighted, demonstrating a lack of appreciation for good rail service and the longer term need for high-speed rapid transit on the Island.

This is simply not the case. Trail support is rising as the public becomes better informed on the well-documented shortcomings of the corridor to meet transit needs. It is not a matter of preference.

Rail service may be a great idea, but it is an idea that cannot be demonstrated using a corridor designed for low-speed travel, now considerably compromised by numerous level road crossings.
