At last some progress…
Many of us want to thank Mayor Brian Weise and the Qualicum Beach council for their offer of the land to the RDN to build this District 69 project.
This eliminates the cost of acquiring the land to build on which is a big part of the expense for this pool expansion. Finally, after all these years, our region will have a pool it can be proud of thanks to Qualicum Beach council and the RDN.
The first meeting held by the RDN and facilitated by Kate Busby on Nov. 28 for input from invited user groups, staff, councillors and directors was very positive and valuable.
Kate focused on the history of the pool and the numerous studies regarding needed upgrades since it was built in 1996. We then broke into two groups and were asked for input on what the community and users groups primary needs were. Finally she gave us flash cards with prices of what the costs were for items that a pool could have and asked us to place into three categories: must have, would be nice and not needed.
Fantastic focus for a smaller community where costs and limited budget are so important. A great meeting. I am looking forward to the online survey later this month and the public meetings mid-January as this project moves ahead.
