I was unfortunate enough to have sat through the entire 4.04-hour, Feb. 25 Qualicum Beach council meeting, more accurately, a gong show.
The most glaring travesty (and there were many), of spending taxpayers monies, was the adoption of the Town of Qualicum Beach Remuneration and Expenses Bylaw #729, 2019.
This by and large inexperienced council, after serving in office less than four months, voted themselves a 65% pay increase. They will now receive $41,300 plus perks (travel expenses, annual cost-of-living increases and assorted benefits) for this “PART-TIME job”. This is three times what a Parksville councillor receives, which is quite a difference. Justified? You make the call.
This new, inexperienced QB council is disingenuous to a fault and obviously cares not how they spend taxpayers’ money.
If their attitude and actions concern you, then find your voice and tell council either by letter or a phone call, or a letter to this paper. Let them know how angry you are, and they’re out of line feathering their nest with your tax dollars.
